I am not sure about the 50 year rule. It depends on the country and also on whether the copyright was renewed. Sonya Orwell was a professional widow, she LIVED of the Orwells corpse for the rest of her life, so I would guess his copyright is stil in action.
By the way, Leni Riefenstahl is stil making money of her "Olympia" and "Triumph of the Will", even though these cinema classics are definitely older than 50 years.
